Slow and a resource hog cumbersome firmware and other updates I'm above average on the techie scale. This was my second one and like the first one its connection was bad and it kept disconnecting which corrupted the data and eventualy made the drive unusable so my next one will probably be a Seagate which I never bought before because I thought they were too cheap but now I know their quality can't be worse than WD. Great way to lose priceless data WD drives are great if you want lose all of your data.

I cannot figure out how to get my files off of it and now eveything is lost. After some use this harddrive the USB fell inside of it. Terrible Product!! I am not techy and I bought this to back up my laptop and also store many of my business files. It will work fine for a while and then inexplicably stop working. Long story short we've passed the hard drive around from computer to computer both Mac and PC and the thing just doesn't work. I had a dying PC so I attributed the problems with the WD drive to my PC's problems.
I purchased this external HD about a year and a half ago and had problems from the start.
WD's hardware is ok the software definitely is not. Uninstall SmartWare and use a thirdparty solution. The included software slows down the system by continually running background processes. It also does what it should not if you let it. It's an unobtrusive device that does what it should. On the first hard drive I lost 10 years of pictures and videos that I'll never be able to see again.ĭrive is ok but the software slows down your system. Luckily I didn't fully trust the company after the first one and have been backing up all of my information on a second external hard drive to be extra safe. The replacement worked for about 2 years as well but the replacements have a shorter warranty and the 2nd one just crashed. The first one was under warranty and the company replaced it but i lost everything because they won't pay for recovery. I've had 2 and both crashed!
